…Spreading the gospel of Christ

WORD MEDITATION: 02/11/2016

“Because they met not the children of Israel with bread and with water but hired Balaam against them, that he should curse them: howbeit, our God turned the curse into a blessing” – Nehemiah 13:2 (KJV).

We live in a generation that promotes curses and make people feel they need to go for special deliverance and curse breaking to qualify them to enjoy the blessings of God. A lot of people today have fallen victim to this manipulation, and so are held under bondage due to ignorance of the finished work of Christ and the provisions of redemption. People spend so much money, energy and time going for family, community deliverance, land cleansing and curse breaking. Some still live in fear that they are under a curse and as such cannot live their lives to its full potential. Every setback in life, every calamity and frustration is attributed to ancestral or witchcraft curses following the individual, family or community.

No doubt, there are people operating under curses. These curses are real, and some afflictions and frustrations are results of curses. The truth, however, is that on the cross, Jesus took care of our curses. When a believer understands the redemptive work of Christ on the cross, the exchange of our curses for his blessings, that Jesus was made a curse for man so that the redeemed man may enjoy the blessings of God, the bondage and yoke of curse no longer holds on such believer. The truth makes one free (John 8:32)

When a Christian understands and takes his rightful place in Christ, he moves from curse to covenant of blessings. Balak hired Balaam to curse Israel. Balaam made all the incantations, cast the spell and made frantic efforts to pronounce curses on the children of Israel but to no avail because the covenant covered them. The curses could not affect the children of Israel because the covenant of blessings and protection was in operation. As long as the covenant of blessing was in place and the people walk in the covenant, the blessings, not curses, will be their daily experience. Until the covenant was broken, the curse had no effect on them. They were blessed beyond curse.

Every child of God must come to terms with the fact that a Christian has a covenant of blessing sealed with the precious blood of Jesus. As long as the covenant is in place through faith and obedient walk and commitment to the word, the believer is blessed beyond curse.

PRAYERS: Lord, help me to daily walk in the covenant of blessing.
