Bible Reading: Psalm 41, Revelation: 2: 11-20
“And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and behold I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death” – Revelation 1:17-18(KJV).
The above assertion was made by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. No other religious leader has or can ever make such assertion. This is the authentication and proof of His Godhead. He is the only one who died, was buried and rose from the death. No other religious leader has achieved such feet. Jesus Christ, the only Potentate, King of kings, Lord of lords is declared as the Head of principality and power.
Being God he became flesh carrying the identity of man in order to legally retrieve the glory lost at Eden to Satan by Adam. When Adam disobeyed God he legally handed over the authority of the god and the administrator of the earth to Satan. Man took upon himself the nature of Satan and became one with the devil in its satanic nature of spiritual death and was thus separated from God. Jesus came to pay all penalties of sin and in fulfilment of His mission, He went to hell because the sin of man was imputed on him. He came in the flesh as a man for the purpose of restoring us to our original position before the fall. Under this divine arrangement, He went to hell – the abode of darkness – and defeated the strong man of the dark world and took away from him the power and authority of hell and death. He declared to John that He is First and Last, he that was, and is, and is to come. He lives for evermore. He also asserted in Matthew 28:18(KJV) “…………All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” Also in Revelation chapter 5, the above statement of Christ was authenticated when the scriptures recorded “And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon” Rev.5:3(KJV). However, the scriptures ascertain the supremacy of Christ when it recorded in Rev. 5:5(KJV) “….Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevail to open the book and to loose the seven seals thereof.” For the first time since creation began eternal gates and everlasting doors of hell was forced open and the King of Glory, the Lord of Host, rose from the dark domain victorious (Psalm 24:7-9). He now holds the key of hell and death. Satan lost his power completely to the superior fire power of Christ Jesus.
Jesus Christ is indeed the mighty man in battle. All forces bow to Him and He is above all. It is no wonder then that the bible says that “The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe” – Proverb 18:10(KJV). Christ did not only redeem humanity but restored to man the power and authority lost at Eden. He is the second Adam that came to right the wrong of the first Adam. He is the seed of the woman that came to bruise the serpent’s head. He fought the battle for us and gave us victory. “And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it” – Colossians 2:15(KJV).
