“Behold what manner of love the father hath bestowed upon us that we should be called the sons of God:…Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is ‘ – 1 John 3:1a, 2
Earlier, in the Gospels, John told us that “as many as received him (Jesus), to them he gave power to become the Sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” Jn. 1:12. If we become sons of God, it means that some men also are sons of the devil. How do we differentiate? We are not left in the dark because the bible says,
“Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for His seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. In this, the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother” 1Jn. 3:9,10.
Sons of God are not sinless and perfect but hate committing sin. If they fall into sin, they grieve and sorrow unto repentance. The scripture says “My little children, these things I write unto you, that ye sin not. And If, (not when) any man sin we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:” 1Jn. 2:1
Are you a son of God? Congrats! if you are. If not sure yet, what are you waiting for? Ask him to forgive your sins and to come into your heart, and give you power to become God’s son now.
Pray this prayer in faith: Dear God, I believe with my heart that Jesus Christ is my Saviour, that he was sent by you to suffer the penalty of my sin. Forgive and give me new life now. In Jesus name. Amen.
