Bible reading in one year: Ps. 113, 114 & 115; 1 Cor 6
“Do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the Kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revelers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the Kingdom of God” – 1Cor 6:9-10 (KJV).
Some in Corinth were deceived into believing that even they were unfaithful to Christ, abandoning their relationship with Him, and defying Him through immoral or unjust behavoiur, their salvation and inheritance in God’s Kingdom were still secure.
However, Paul affirms that spiritual death is the sure and final result of habitual sin, even for those who were believers at one time. No one can live for selfish or immoral pleasure and still have a part in God’s eternal Kingdom.
Paul’s warning is directed to the Christian community. We must not be deceived: “those who are wicked will not inherit the Kingdom of God.” Any salvation that does not include the life -transforming, spiritually purifying and character – building work of the Holy Spirit, is not genuine and has no place in the New Testament teaching.
