TOPIC: THE WORD FROM THE MOUTH OF GOD
“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” – Matthew 4:4 (KJV)
When the devil tempted Jesus during His fast in the wilderness and asked Him to command stones to be turned to bread because He was hungry, He answered, “Man doesn’t live by bread ALONE but man LIVES by every WORD that proceeds from the mouth of God.” In a fast, if you’re not feeding on physical bread, you must be feeding on the spiritual bread of God’s Word because it is this spiritual bread that can sustain you. The Word from the mouth of God i.e. God’s ‘revealed’ Word to you is the bread of the spirit man.
What happens in a fast is that God takes scriptures and by His Spirit makes them personal to you. Notice Jesus didn’t say that man shall live by scriptures, He said that man shall live by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. It is the Word from the mouth of God that breathes life into any situation and brings the solution. The way this happens is that as you wait upon God, your spirit man broods and lays hold on vital truths, instructions, insights and in the case of a corporate fast – prophetic utterances – prompted from scriptures by the Holy Spirit comes to your heart that you can use and get your faith working to produce desired result (1 Timothy 4:14-15). This is the reason you must surround and immerse yourself with the right ‘materials’ in a fast instead of just staying hungry.
As a believer, the greatest gain in prayer and fasting is not what is physically forfeited but what is spiritually gained. It could be something you’ve heard before, but they come alive and fresh in your spirit. Life is in the freshness of spiritual truths. Sometimes the reason we can’t hear the ‘Word that proceeds out of the mouth of God’ is because of the distractions around us – that’s where fasting required to remove distractions.
Therefore, you have to meditate on scriptures and allow the Word from the mouth of God to take root in your spirit man in other to maximise the walk of faith and be led by the Spirit of God.
DECLARE: As I feed on the Word of God I am supernaturally instructed and led in Jesus Name.
