TOPIC: THE PRIESTHOOD OF CHRIST
Bible Reading: Jeremiah 40-42: Hebrews 2
“Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God to make reconciliation for the sins of the people” Hebrews 2:17 (KJV)
Everything pertaining to the salvation of man is covered and enveloped in God’s love. It was pertinent that the sacrifice for the sin and salvation of man must be man. “For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sin” Hebrews 10:4(KJV). However, all men have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Among humanity there is no one adjudged righteous of whose blood atonement can be made for the sin of humanity. For “As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one” Romans 3:10 (KJV). The scriptures went further to say in Romans 3:23(KJV), “for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God;”
The original prophecy stated by God concerning the redeemer in Genesis 3:15 relates to the seed of the woman. This presupposes that the Saviour will be of the human seed. In order to have a perfect and complete sacrifice for redemption of the human race Christ came as stated in Galatians 4:4(KJV), “but when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son made of a woman made under the law.” Love compelled God to come in human form, “For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted” Hebrews 2:18(KJV). Angels would not have experienced and understood the arrows of temptation that the devil and its cohort throw at us and so such atonement will not carry true love for man as brethren. Christ, being hundred percent God and hundred percent man, was tempted and suffered like us to truly stand as the redeemer of His Brethren. Christ by His coming death and resurrection perfectly fit in as the great reconciliatory between man and God. He paid the price for the sin that separated us from God, presenting us as sanctified sons and daughter before our Father and God for acceptance. He accomplished the reconciliation between us and our Father-God as our Merciful and Faithful High Priest we can rely and depend on.
As our High Priest He accomplished the mission of redemption by presenting His Blood to the Great majesty in the Holiest place in the tabernacle in heaven. In conclusion the bible says in Romans 3:24-25(KJV), “Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: whom God hath set forth to be the propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God.” The Lord swore and will not repent that Jesus is a priest forever after the order of Melchisedec, making the person of Jesus a surety to a better testament. Prior to Christ the bible said in Hebrews 7:23-24(KJV), “And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death: but this man because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.”
My dear reader, I introduce you to Christ Jesus who is the surety of a better testament and whose High Priesthood abides forever. He is the one that has adequately paid the price of sin and made atonement for us by His blood. It is very necessary that you reciprocate His love which He has extended to you by handing over your entire life to Him as your Lord and Saviour. Come now for tomorrow may be too late.
Prayer: Father I thank you for making me a beneficiary of the priesthood of Christ Jesus.
