Topic: God is light
Bible Reading: Ezekiel 47-48; 1 John 1.
Memory Verse: “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” 1 John 1:5 (KJV).
If you are in a dark environment and you bring in light, the whole environment will be lightened. So there is no dark place where you will bring light and it will not change the environment. 1 John 1:5 (KJV) says, “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” Thus, if you are a child of God and you are in the environment of unbelievers, your behaviour should mark you out as light. When there are issues and you maintain the truth inspite of the seeming odds. When there is turbulence and you maintain your peace and in a situation where inspite of all negative attitude to you, you remain patient. You will not need to tell anyone you are a child of God before they know. Action speaks louder than voice.
A business man in Nigeria shared a testimony of his business travails. He said they were building a power station in Nigeria that cost about two billion U.S dollars and they needed power permit from the ministry of power after a while to move to the next phase of the project. At that time he met a senior official of the ministry to discuss it and after some discussion, the official said he would ensure the businessman’s company did not get the permit.
The businessman said that he called his Chinese partner to tell him the outcome of his meeting with the Ministry’s official and he was alarmed. He then asked what would be done urgently to resolve the issue because the amount of money they had spent including taking facility from the Afrexim bank of China could lead to bankruptcy of the Chinese partner’s company. The Nigerian businessman said he told the Chinese he would pray to God concerning the matter. This infuriated the Chinese further given the risk involved. In less than a week after that conversation, the man in the Ministry of power who said he would ensure no work permit would be issued was sick and had to be evacuated to Germany for treatment and his boss took over the major assignment in his office. He found the documents relating to the power project and instructed that the work permit be issued speedily and so the Nigerian businessman was called and given the work permit.
His Chinese friend was stunned when he heard what had happened and the Nigerian businessman said thereafter when there is any major bottleneck in the project, he would ask him to report to his God and felt relaxed because of the previous experience.
Your testimony can be greater if you also have faith in your God, pray to him and live a life of holiness which makes you become light like your father in heaven. Jesus said in Matthew 5:14-16 (KJV), “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. [15] Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. [16] Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
Action point:
Let your behaviour be a reflection of Christ’s light in you.
