Memory Verse: “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” John 3:17 (KJV).
Today, the whole world celebrates the anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ. This is done in most countries of the world with a lot of fun and celebration. While this is noteworthy, one thing is of more importance and that is understanding the purpose for which he came to this world. He himself said this clearly in our memory verse John 3:17 (KJV) “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”
So, he was sent by God Almighty to save the world. It is a worthwhile ceremony therefore to celebrate the one who came to save the entire world from condemnation. But beyond this celebration, it’s important to know how he saves the world so that everyone can be a partaker of that salvation. Jesus Christ came to the world to die for the sins of all sinners, though he did not commit any sin in all the years he lived on earth (2 Corinthians 5:21). This is to bear the punishment of all sinners so that everyone who acknowledges Him as the Lord shall be cleansed and made righteous by faith. Now those who so acept Him as Lord and Saviour will no longer live unto themselves but unto Jesus Christ. ( 2 Corinthians 5:15 ).
Thus, those who believe in Him will no longer carry the burden of their sin as Jesus took everything away by His death, burial and resurrection the third day. Such a person is expected not to go back to the sins committed but to now live a new life patterned after Christ. Such a person is now expected to live a life of obedience to Christ and that will bring about a change in his behaviour such that he is expected to show love to everyone, rejoice at all times because the joy of the Lord will be his strength, be at peace with everyone as much as possible, be patient in his dealings, gentle in conduct and good to everyone. In addition, he is expected to show meekness and exercise faith in God while also having self control. When you observe these ways in the life of anyone, you will resolve that he has truly given his life to Christ. This is why 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV) says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
What then are you expected to do after repenting of your sins and accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. You need to study the word of God to know Him more, fellowship with Him by praising, worshipping and praying to Him regularly and ensure obedience to Him. This is a great way of showing we value the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ and not only by eating and drinking .
Merry Christmas.
Prayer point: Father, please draw more people to Yourself in this season in Jesus mighty name.
