“And Manoah said, Now let thy words come to pass. How shall we order the child, and how shall we do unto him?’’. – Judges 13:12(KJV).
We may not always rely on man to make good his promises because as honest his intensions may be, he is limited in power to bring his words to pass. While some may not be honest in their promises for lack of integrity, others may be sincere in their intentions but may not fulfill their promises due to unforeseen circumstances or reasons beyond their control.
For God, the case is totally different. He is a covenant keeper. “My covenant will I not break nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips” – Psalm 89:34(KJV). Heaven and earth may pass away but God’s word shall not pass away. As the rain comes down and the snow from heaven, and return not but waters the earth and makes it bring forth that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so is God’s word that goes forth out of his mouth. It shall not return unto him void, but it shall accomplish its purpose and prosper in the thing it is sent for.
God’s word is quick, alive, active and powerful, and can penetrate to the joints and marrow, even discern the intents of the hearts. God’s integrity is tied to his word. For God willing to show unto the heirs of his promise the immutability of his counsel confirmed it by an oath; that by two immutable things (his word of promise and his integrity of character), it is impossible for God to lie (Hebrews 6:17-18). God can be believed and relied on. He has exalted his word above his names.
Our confidence or faith in God is rooted in the understanding that:
- God cannot lie (Titus 1:2 ;Hebrews 6:18)
- God cannot change (Malachi 3:6 ; James 1:17)
- God cannot fail (Luke 21:33)
These are based on the premises that he is God, the alpha and omega, the beginning and the end. He is omnipotent (all- powerful); he is omnipresent (present everywhere); he is omniscient (all-knowing).
Men will often say, I meant to help you but due to circumstances beyond my control, I cannot help you. So glad to know that every circumstance is within Gods control. With man, it may be impossible but not with God, for with God, all things are possible.
Note that Manoah believed God, for he said, now let your word come to pass. How shall we order the child? To him, it was not a question of if the word will come to pass. It was as good as done. He asked to know how to handle the child when he comes. Most people in unbelief begin to make alternative arrangements even after praying in case the word of God falls to the ground.
PRAYER: Lord, may all your promises come to pass in my life in Jesus name.
