Topic: The Ultimate Blessing
Bible Reading: Psalm 124-127; 1 Corinthians 7:1-24.
Memory Verse: “Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.” Psalm 127:1 (KJV) .
Without the Lord’s active participation, human effort to build, establish or protect anything is in vain. It is by the grace of God that we are able to achieve anything. Any disregard of God’s input in whatever you are doing is a recipe for disaster. When the men of the earth chose to build Tower of Babel without God, they started well and got to a stage until their language was confounded such that they could not understand each other again. That was the end of the Tower. ( Gen 11:1-9) On the other hand, Noah built an Ark without any previous experience or support of other ship builders but relying on God for instruction and direction. ( Gen 6:13-22).
You need the blessing of God in everything you do to make a success of it. And it is important that you seek the face of God on whatever you want to embark upon before you start rather than getting to the middle of it and now seeking God’s blessings in order to resolve challenges faced. David said in 1 Chronicles 29:14 (KJV), “But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.”
So if everything comes from God, then whatever you intend achieving on earth is from God and you certainly need His blessing to grow, establish or even protect it. So if you know the source of ultimate blessing as God then your countenance to giving should be different knowing that you are a mere custodian and God can choose any other person to “warehouse” the blessing for Him! It, therefore, behoves on you not only to seek His blessing before you commence any project but you should also be generous particularly to the poor and needy. In Proverbs 19:17 (KJV), “He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.” This further secures your position with the Ultimate source of blessing, the Almighty God.
When you recognise this fact, you will also be humble because your position, status or authority is by the grace of God so you should be careful how you dispense your authority to those around you.
Several years ago, a young man was our tea boy in a commercial bank in Nigeria. He was humble and jovial, so we generally liked him. Then he decided to go to the Polytechnic for his Ordinary National Diploma. He was well supported by those he served and after a few years I left the bank. Some years later one of his bosses who had left banking to take up responsibility in another sector decided to come back to banking and she was hired as a Manager. Upon resumption, he found the Tea boy was a senior Manager in the same bank! I was surprised but that is a lesson that God can bless anyone and a house help today can be a Governor tomorrow. This further stresses the need to seek the face of God at all times for His blessings. He does not discriminate. But you also have to be diligent and focus on God and He will bless you . Above all, always remember the Psalmist song in Psalm 127:1 (KJV), “Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.”
Action Point:
Always seek the face of God before you embark on any project.
