TOPIC: HOLD UNTO GOD’S WORD
Bible Reading: Genesis 3-5; Matthew 2
Memory verse: [2] “And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: [3] But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.” Genesis 3.2-3 (KJV)
The difference in the success or failure of many today lies in the words they held on to. We are strangers on the earth and therefore need a guide to help us navigate our way successfully on the earth. The One who created us gave us His word and His Spirit to serve as a guide for us.
God’s word can be words spoken directly by God Himself as seen in today’s memory verse where Eve, speaking to the serpent, confirmed God spoke to them in Genesis 3:2-3 (KJV), “And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: [3] But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.” It can be word spoken through God’s angel to man as seen in Matthew 2:13,20 where an angel sent by God told Joseph to take the baby Jesus and move to another town. God’s word can come to you personally through the bible you read, or through the Spirit of God to your own spirit and through men of God like your pastors and prophets, etc.
However, it is what you do with what God told you through any of the channels listed above (there may be more) that matters. Obedience to His word will make you live a fulfilled life while disobedience to His words always leads to regret and sometimes death. Joseph, after he received the word from the angel did as was told and he and his family were saved from the disaster that would have visited them.
Eve, on her part, allowed herself to be deceived and disobeyed the word of God she had earlier recited to the serpent. The result was man’s dethronement from the lofty height they were with God with a curse and expulsion from the Garden of Eden to a life of sorrow and death. The cost of disobedience is high, especially given the fact that we do not have control over how the consequences of disobedience could turn out. King Saul lost his kingdom due to disobedience to divine instruction (1 Samuel 15:28)
What have you been told by God? Have you kept to His word? Jesus said of God’s word that it will surely come to pass! Why are we then not holding unto His word like our lives depended on it? And it does! For your life to turn out well for you and your generation after you, learn to keep and obey God’s word to the end, only then can we live a fulfilled life.
Action Point: Consciously take note of all God has instructed you to do and make sure you do them to the latter.
