Topic: Thinking about God
Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 7-9; Luke 15:11-32.
Memory Verse: “That the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in an house of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains” 2 Samuel 7:2 (KJV)
When you are settled and have peace around you, what do you think of mostly? Most people think of how to perpetuate the peace they enjoy and how to keep their generation in such comfort continually. But David was different and that explains partly while he was a man after God’s heart. He was thinking about God. How the Ark of God can be housed better! He called Nathan the prophet and in 2 Samuel 7:2 (KJV), “That the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in an house of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains.” Similarly, when he took food to his brothers on the war front and heard about the boasting of Goliath, his concern was about the man defying God of Israel and for that he was willing to risk his life!
In 1 Samuel 17:26 (KJV), “And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?” He was always putting God first not just in his speech but more importantly in his thoughts. No wonder the word of God in Matthew 6:33 (KJV), “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” became a reality in his life.
After David had called Nathan, the prophet, to tell him about the concern for God, God sent the same prophet to him and promised to keep his lineage to reign in Israel perpetually! What he could not achieve physically, he got spiritually by putting God first in his thoughts. Furthermore, God ensured that subsequently, he won all the wars he went for!
What occupies your thought often? Is it God and his righteousness or about perpetuating your legacy? Whatever you desire to achieve can be done in multiple fold only if you can have the right priority; think about God and things of God first. Always look for how to accord God priority in all your dealings and you will see God making ways for you in a manner you never thought could be accomplished!
Action point: Accord God the first place in your heart always and experience his goodness.
