Topic: Obedience is the key to a successful life
Bible Reading: 1 Kings 4-6; Luke 19:1-28.
Memory Verse: “Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father:” 1 Kings 6:12 (KJV)
Solomon was given wisdom and understanding by God such that no one could compare to him in godly wisdom. People all over the world were coming to learn from his wisdom. 1 Kings 4:29 (KJV) says, “And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore.”
Based on his wisdom, he was able to build a glorious church for God as he attracted special skills from different parts of the world to build the church. However, in spite of the beauty of the church, God spoke to Solomon concerning it in 1 Kings 6:12 (KJV), “Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father:” God’s focus is on obedience to His word. So while its good to take care of your body as a vessel of God and also great that you build a church for Him, the overriding factor is obedience to the word of God.
It is obedience to His word that will attract Him to you and keep you in His presence. Also it’s obedience that will cause Him to perform His promises for you and your household. No matter what you build or do if you do not obey His word, He will be far from you. That’s why He said to Saul through Samuel that obedience is better than sacrifice! (1 Samuel 15:22). What do you desire from God that seems it is taking too long to achieve, check your obedience to His word and if you are okay then, remain steadfast, He will surely address your challenge. In fact, if you are doing well and He has blessed you, you need to watch your obedience, otherwise your blessing may suffer serious setback if you become disobedient. One of the great fathers of faith, Pa Akindayomi shared his testimony of how God provided for his family. He said God instructed him to tell his wife to dish whatever type of soup she wanted from a pot without looking inside and that this pot will never be empty as long as she obeyed. And truly, she dished several delicious soup from the pot, fresh fish, various type of meat etc from the pot for several days until inquisition took greater part of her and she looked inside the pot. That was the last day she ever dished soup from the pot!
Yours may not be food, it may be job, relationship, health or any other issue, it is important you live in obedience to the word of God if you want to live a successful life
