Topic: God has a backup for you.
Bible Reading: 1 Kings 7-9; Luke 19:29-48.
Memory Verse: “And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.” Luke 19:40 (KJV)
God is the greatest planner. He knows what will happen in future and has already put a backup plan in place. There is no emergency with Him. That is why He told Elijah in 1 Kings 19:18 (KJV), “Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.” in response to his claim to God that he was the only true believer left in Israel! In addition, to show Elijah He always had backup, He asked him to anoint Elisha, his backup!
When king Saul became disobedient, God asked Samuel to anoint David in the King’s place! (1 Samuel 16:1). What are you doing for God that you think you are the only one available for the assignment? God is omniscient, He knows your future action and has provided a backup for you, so you cannot spring a surprise on Him.
Thus, in our Bible reading today, when the Pharisees saw the way the disciples amongst others were celebrating Christ while riding on the colt they told Him to rebuke His disciples to stop celebrating Him, “And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.” Luke 19:40 (KJV). That is to show God has several alternatives to provide backup, if people become too proud to do any assignment, He could use animals or even non-living things such as stones to do His will! Because with Him, nothing shall be impossible.
So before you start feeling arrogant because of any assignment you are handling for God, remember He has a backup for you and will not allow His work to suffer. You are the one that will lose your reward because He says in Luke 9:62 (KJV), “And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” That is the reason why Jesus said you should count the cost of following Him. He says in Luke 14:26 (KJV), “If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.” So it’s important that you recognise that God wants a sacrificial following and that’s why He asked you to seek Him and his kingdom first before any other thing. Are you ready?
Action plan: Remember God has a back up plan for you and ensure you do his work conscientiously!
