TOPIC: THE HOLY SPIRIT, MY HELP
Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 4-6; John 12:20-50
“Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.” — John 16:7 (KJV)
For about three years, the disciples of Jesus experienced some of the most remarkable moments of their lives as they walked with Him. Jesus was of immense help to His disciples. He was their Comforter, Teacher, Deliverer, and Friend. However, the time came for Him to return to the Father, and this filled their hearts with sorrow.
Jesus said, “But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou? But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart” John 16:5-6 (KJV). Knowing their grief, He encouraged them with these words: “It is expedient for you that I go away…” He explained that His departure would make way for the coming of the Comforter, the Holy Spirit.
Jesus introduced the ministry of the Holy Spirit as that of a Helper because the Holy Spirit would continue the work of helping God’s people just as Jesus had helped His disciples. In John 14:16-17, Jesus said, “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth…” The Holy Spirit is not merely with us; He dwells in us. He is our indwelling Helper, Guide, and Strength.
If believers truly understood who the Holy Spirit is and what He represents in their lives, they would never live in confusion, fear, or uncertainty. Many fail to enjoy the help of the Holy Spirit because they view Him merely as an experience rather than as a Person with whom they can fellowship daily. The Holy Spirit desires to guide, teach, comfort, and communicate with us just as Jesus did with His disciples.
This is why we must become more conscious of God’s presence within us. The Apostle Paul asked, “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” 1 Corinthians 3:16 (KJV). Every help you will ever need is available through the Holy Spirit. He can help you through a word of wisdom, a song, a revelation, divine direction, creative ideas, open doors, and opportunities that only God can provide.
Today, set your mind on the reality of the Holy Spirit’s presence within you. Never forget that you are not alone and you are never without help. God has given you His Spirit to lead, strengthen, and assist you in every area of life. The Holy Spirit is here to help.
Prayer: Thank You, Father, for the gift of the Holy Spirit who dwells in me. Help me to become more conscious of His presence and to follow His leading every day, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
