Topic: Patience
Bible Reading: Proverbs 4-6; Romans 15:1-21.
Memory Verse: “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.” Romans 15:4 (KJV)
The Webster’s Dictionary explains Patience as “The suffering of afflictions, pain, toil, calamity, provocation or other evil, with a calm, unruffled temper; endurance without murmuring or fretfulness. Patience may spring from constitutional fortitude, from a kind of heroic pride, or from christian submission to the divine will.” This is an attribute expected of all disciples of Christ . While you cannot do this by yourself, the Holy Spirit has been given to you for such an endurance. This is why this is part of the fruit of the Holy Spirit living in you. Examples abound in the scripture of how patience led to the fulfillment of divine purpose. Abraham had to wait for 25years for the fulfillment of God’s promise to him for a son (Genesis 12-21). Similarly, Joseph was betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery and falsely imprisoned in Egypt; all these sufferings took about 13 years before his dream was fulfilled. And David also suffered persecution from Saul and waited for about 15 years before he finally became the King.
Our Lord Jesus was not only falsely accused but was given several lashes and crucified for sins He never committed and was buried before He resurrected after three days in the grave and now sits on the right side of the father. All these things were written for us to learn from. Romans 15:4 (KJV) says, “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”
So whatever challenges you are going through now, just check your relationship with God and if you are living a life of obedience, be sure that all things will work for your good ( Romans 8:28) but do not take vengeance but exhibit the love of God and exercise patience while doing the good works of your father. Know that the Almighty God “Who will render to every man according to his deeds: [7] To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:” ( Romans 2:6-7 (KJV)
Prayer point: Father, please let me not waiver in exercising patience in my daily walk with you in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
