“And David said unto him, Fear not, for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father’s sake and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually”. – 2 Samuel 9:7(KJV)
What an exemplary action from a king. Such an act of benevolence is commendable from a king who could have chosen to care less. Often a time people rise to the place of power and authority and forget those who were instrumental to their rising. Acts of ungratefulness is the order of the day in our world today. David remembered his covenant with Jonathan. David also recognize that it was Jonathan birthright to covet the throne being the first son of Saul, this he did not do because of his love for David and his perceived hand of God upon David. In 1 Samuel 18: 1,3&4(KJV) the bible said ”And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved as his own soul. Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul. And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garment, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle. This was a very serious act of love. He loved David to the extent of been ready to forgo the ascension to the throne. It is then understandable why David extended such benevolence to Jonathan son, Mephibosheth. This act of gratitude and reciprocation of true love is rare in our world today. On daily bases you hear of betrayal among folks. People no longer trust one another, we have become very suspicious of one another. People leave in distrust and suspicion. Even those who extended their hands of benevolence got their fingers burnt. Savagery is the order of the day. The heart of men are now made of stone. All these were clearly spoken about as a test of activities heralding the end of time. “For know also that in the last days perilous time shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves (self-centered),covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents , unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God”. – 2 Timothy 3:1-4. Reading through these scriptures we do not need a prophet to confirm to us that we are in the last days on this earth. We are fast approaching the end of ages. What is your position as to where you will spend eternity as we are fast approaching the timeless zone? We are about to enter the realm of eternity, where will you spend yours?
Prayer: Father help me to uphold a righteous living in the midst of the savagery and mistrust that is prevalent on earth. In Jesus name
