WEEK DISCUSS: JESUS CHRIST OUR DELIVERER FROM THE CONSEQUENCES OF SIN
Scripture For The week Discuss: Jeremiah 16:19. ” O Lord, my strength and my fortress, my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come to you from the ends of the earth and say, surely our fathers have inherited lies, worthlessness , and unprofitable things.”
The consequences of sin over humanity are grave and devastating. One major effect is that sin separated man from God. The bible says “But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid His face from you that He will not hear.” – Isaiah 59:2. Sin brought reproach, pain, sorrow and great agonies among men. The scripture says that “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people“. Prov. 14:34. Reproach here means shame, failure, retrogression, lack of development, moving in circle of disappointment etc, etc.
One major consequence of sin is death. Disobedience to divine instruction introduced death to humanity. God said in Genesis 2:17 “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die”. The decree of the LORD is yea and amen i.e. it is irreversible. The introduction of sin by man’s disobedience opened the floodgate for the multiplicity of vices, iniquity, transgression, unrighteous living, immorality, etc. etc. God’s original intention for creating man did not include sickness and diseases. These came as a result of sin. The first element of jealousy and murder was recorded in the first product of conception in humanity, Cain – Gen. 4:8. The fall of man gave Satan, commonly called devil the leeway to bring man into captivity through deception, falsehood, intimidation, molestation and disobedience to God’s instruction. That wicked adversary to man, the devil went further to introduce idolatry with the sole intention to slight the Almighty God by diverting worship from God to images of man, four footed beast, birds and creeping things . See Romans 1:18-32. Consequently man fell into this satanic trap that is an abomination to God and became a victim of the curse placed on those who practice it. Deut. 27:15 “Cursed is the one who makes a carved or molded image, an abomination to the LORD, the works of the hands of the craftsman, and sets it up in secret.” Gradually the wicked adversary to man introduced satanic channels of occultism, spiritism, magic etc through which wickedness multiplied and humanity was taken into spiritual bondage and captivity of failure, retrogression, sickness, endless struggle, satanic patterns, retardation, destiny distortion etc. Man grossly degenerated in bestiality and sin. Various kinds of vices multiplied while humanity suffered under increasing weight of wickedness, hence it said in 1John 5:19b “…………..and the whole world lieth in wickedness (KJV). .Also in Gen. 6:5 the bible stated that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every intent of the thought of his heart was only evil continually.
My dear friend, consider how many glorious destinies have been distorted and ruined. People destined for greatness ended up societal regrets and deviants. People are locked up in the bottles or containers of wickedness. They struggle without anything to show for it. Wombs are made barren, material and financial growth in people’s life are retarded. Glorious destinies are locked up, destroyed and terminated. See Songs of Solomon 4:12. Jeremiah 16:19 vividly described the error emanating from idolatry as inherited lies, worthlessness and unprofitable things. In verse 20 the prophet asked, ” Will a man make gods to himself, which are no gods.”
All these were referred to in the Scriptures as the errors of our fathers as stated in Jeremiah 16:19. “O Lord, my strength and my fortress, my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come to you from the ends of the earth and say, surely our fathers have inherited lies, worthlessness, and unprofitable things.” Idolatry, occultic practices and witchcraft are worthless and unprofitable ventures. They are unprogressive acts used as instruments by the powers of darkness to keep men in bondage. These are lies from the pit of hell that has traumatized humanity. For this reason the devil is referred to as the father of lies in John 8:44 “You are of your father the devil, and the desire of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks he lies, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.”
Meanwhile the all knowing God, who is full of mercy and love is just and true. He cannot go back to his word that the soul that sins must die. His love will not allow him to watch the devil completely destroy what He created and His intention for creating man, which was to have a being in His likeness and in his image with a physical form to be in charge of the physical world. Man was supposed to rule on the planet as God’s extension in the physical. God right from the fall of Adam, made provision for redemption and the deliverance of man whom He created. In Genesis 3:15 God cursed the deceiver of human race- the serpent and put enmity between him and the seed of the woman.
The need to liberate man became imperative as wickedness perpetuated by Satan increased. The redemption of man became paramount in God’s agenda. The redemptive plan was conceived on the platform of a covenant which will be sealed with a pure and righteous blood. God could not find any righteous soul among men. This is attested to in Roman 3:23. It behoove the righteous God to release the power of His creation -THE WORD. Jesus Christ the only begotten Son of God took the responsibility of our redemption and deliverance. See what the scripture said about Him in Psalm 45:6-7 “Your throne O God, is forever and ever, a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of your kingdom. You love righteousness and hate wickedness, therefore God, your God has anointed you with the oil of gladness more than your companions”. He that loves righteousness and hates iniquity has to come not only to save man from sin but also to elevate and empower man to God’s original plan of Authority and Dominion. He came to equip us for victory over the powers of darkness. It is no wonder then that the scriptures says in Zechariah 9:11-12,14-16 ” As for thee also, by the blood of thy covenant I have sent out the prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water. Turn you to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope: even today do I declare that I will render double unto thee; ………..And the LORD shall be seen over them and His arrow shall go forth as the lightening: and the LORD God shall blow the trumpet, and shall go with whirlwinds of the south. The LORD of hosts shall defend them; and they shall devour, and subdue with sling stones ;………….And the LORD their God shall save them in that day as the flock of his people: for they shall be as the stones of a crown, lifted up as ensign upon His land.”
God is a covenant keeper. Covenants are the strongest and most powerful form of agreement between persons. It becomes binding by death when blood is involved. No wonder God said in Leviticus 17:11″ For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul”
In this case God has to establish an inalterable and strong covenant with man sealing it up with the blood of His son Jesus Christ. This covenant mandates the Almighty God to defend His own by destroying and incapacitating any power resisting God’s plan and purpose for us. However, this is predicated on surrendering your life to Him and your being born into the family of God. The Almighty shall then be seen over you because of the blood of the covenant. This covenant puts the angels on your side in the battles of life. According to the above passage in Zechariah 9:11-16 God is compelled by this covenant to defend His own. (Those that have been saved and washed in the blood of His son Jesus Christ). At the cross of Calvary Jesus Christ completed the work of redemption by bringing you under His covenant that exempts us from all the vices and consequences of sin. This covenant when invoked by your commitment to the work of God, your love for God and His world puts you in the place of dominion and victory over life battles. This is elucidated in 1John 5:4 “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. and this is the victory that has overcome the world – our faith”. See what the scriptures say concerning the redemptive work of Christ – Colosians 2:13-15. “And you being dead in your trespasses and uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made together with Him, having forgiven all your trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirement that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way having nailed it to the cross. Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over in it”. This is the guarantee of our total victory in Christ. Luke 10:19 ” Behold I give you authority to trample on serpent and scorpion and over all the powers of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you”.
From the above it is very clear that the Righteous one who declared “I am the way, the truth and the life…………” – John 14:6. has defeated and rendered the wicked adversary of humanity powerless. Consequently, He transferred the authority from this victory to us to exercise in dealing with the forces of darkness. We can invoke our covenant terms to subdue the forces of darkness, no wonder the Psalmist said in Psalms 74:20 “ Have respect to the covenant: for the dark places of the earth are full of haunts of cruelty”.
My dear reader you need to have knowledge of Christ’s redemptive work for you to begin to enjoy the victory He won for you. John 8:32 says “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free”. In Isaiah 61:1-2 the bible says that the Spirit of the Lord God is upon Christ and the LORD has anointed Him to preach good tidings to the poor, to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, opening of the prison to those who are bound, to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, to console those who mourn in Zion.
Jesus Christ is our Saviour, Redeemer and Deliverer. No power can resist Him, at the mention of His name every knee must bow. Christ has handed over victory to you, exercise that victory. You need to have a conviction and confidence in Christ redemptive work for you to enjoy your rights in redemption. Isaiah 5:13 says “Therefore my people have gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge. Their honourable men are famished and their multitude dried up with thirst.” Your knowledge of your redemption right will move you out of captivity. Colosians 1:13-14 declares ” He(Jesus Christ) has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed(translated) us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins“.
It is time to fasten your seat belt and properly position yourself to tap into the truth of what redemption offers. I decree an end to your circle of struggle In JESUS NAME. AMEN. I declare your Liberty in Christ Jesus Completed In Jesus Name. Amen. Let every tag of failure and disappointment place in your life begin to fall off by fire In Jesus Name. Amen. May the power of resurrection cause all your buried destiny to begin to resurrect right now In Jesus Name. Amen. Every satanic pattern of rise and fall comes to an end in your life In Jesus Name. Amen.
