“Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his son’s days will I bring the evil upon his house”. 1 Kings 21:29 KJV
Ahab was a very bad king. The bible says of Ahab in 1 Kings 16:30 KJV “And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord above all that were before him”. His wife Jezebel was a terror. She was the one that told Elijah that he would be killed within twenty four hours and Elijah ran for his dear life. (1 Kings 19:2-3) She was the same woman who set up people to lie against Naboth so that they could kill him and his land could be taken by King Ahab. (1 Kings 21:7-15)
Based on all atrocities committed by Ahab, and particularly for the death of Naboth, God sent Elijah to him that he would die a shameful death and erased the trace of his lineage from ruling Israel.
But when Ahab was told of the judgement of God for him, he humbled himself. The bible says in 1 Kings 21:29 KJV “Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his son’s days will I bring the evil upon his house”.
So God spared Ahab because he humbled himself before the Lord. God says in James 4:6 that he resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. With humility one will get undeserved mercy of God as shown to Ahab. We should therefore exhibit humility in all that we do and recognise that it is a way of getting Gods attention.
Prayer: Father, help me to show humility in all my dealings in Jesus name.
