“Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners” – 1 Corinthians 15:33 KJV.
Farming is a good business that also teaches the basic issues of life. A farmer knows that if he plants a seed of mango, he would not expect to reap cashew from the tree after it has grown and bear fruits. It will surely bear mangoes. And though it is only one seed of mango that was sown, it brings forth several fruits. This is a classical case of life. As we take in different scenes into our heart, they gather together and are processed to become thoughts that are often spoken out whether consciously or unconsciously. When ones heart is full of evil things, you can’t possibly speak good things freely. That is why The Lord Jesus said to the Pharisees in Matthew 12:34 KJV, “O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.”
So the type of things we feed our heart with will determine what comes out of our mouth. This is why it is essential that we watch what we see, read or hear regularly. This is one of the reasons why we should study the word of God often as this will keep feeding our hearts with the right responses to the issues of life. This is why Joshua 1:8 KJV says “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success”.
As we study the word of God regularly, some of them stick to us day by day and over time we get accustomed to it such that our words and even our deeds would be guided by them. On the other hand, if we continue to watch and hear things that are corrupt, it’s a matter of time they will rub on us. This is why the word of God says in 1 Corinthians 15:33KJV. “Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.”
So let’s watch what comes out of our mouth and also watch what we read, hear or even focus on.
Action: Let us engage our attention on godly things all through our days so that we can bear godly fruits.
Prayer: Father, grant me the grace to study, think and meditate on your word daily in Jesus Name.
