“Then the people rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, because with perfect heart they offered willingly to the LORD: and David the king also rejoiced with great joy”. – 1 Chronicles 29:9(KJV).
A good leader leads by example. Effective leadership provokes patriotism. The attitude of the led are influenced by the kind of leadership. The spirit of the leader is replicated among his followers. Benevolent leaders produces amiable and loving followership. David was a strong example of a benevolent and patriotism inducing leadership. He led by example. He demonstrated a deep rooted love for God. It was his desire to build a place for worship unto God, but it was God’s plan that his son Solomon will build Him a house. Nonetheless David has provided generously what was required for the building. He presented these items to the elders in his departure speech. Seeing such a great act the people longed to be part of God’s work. The people gave following the example of their leader. His action provoked cheerful and willing heart to give to the building of a place of worship to God. See this in 1 Chronicles 29:6(KJV) “Then the chief of the fathers and princes of the tribe of Israel, and captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the rulers of the king’s work, offered willingly”.
At every levels of human existence there is leadership. In your small work group in the office how are you carrying on as a leader? What kind of leader are you in your entrusted position. Do you lead by example or by imposition? How have you influence your team and colleagues as a Christian leader? To what extent has your leadership influenced your team/followers? Negative or positively? You may need to ponder after these questions. The bible says in Matt. 5:13(KJV) “Ye are the salt of the earth:……”
We need as a Christian to imbibe the leadership quality of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. It is only then we can lead by the Holy Spirit.
Prayer: Father, grant me the grace to lead like Christ.
