“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the father by him” Colossians 3:17(KJV)
In all our words and deeds we are admonished to do all in the name of Jesus Christ. When we become Christians we lose our independence to our dependency in Christ Jesus. Whatever we are doing no matter how small it is, we must depend on him for his help, support and guidance. We must put our confidence in his ability to carry us through. A basketball player may have all the needed talent and physique but been a Christian he must depend on God for every outing. He must learn how to use the name of Jesus Christ in all situation. The bible says “So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him the runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy” Romans 9:16(KJV). Putting your confidence in your ability will fail you. God expects us to be dependent on him. The fastest runner can trip in the final race and fail. The highest jumper can spray his ankle while moving to jump. It is pertinent that we learn how to trust and depend on God in all situations for he is the all-knowing God. In addition to our total dependency on him we must also know how to use our Christian power of attorney which Christ has handed over to us. The power of attorney is a legal and written authority given to an agent by the principal to transact business on his behalf. Jesus Christ in John 16:23(KJV) confers this power of attorney to us “And in that day ye shall ask me nothing, verily, verily, I say unto you, whatever ye shall ask the father in my name, he will give it you”. This assures us that there is no limitation to what believers may ask and receive within the bounds of the promises. All believers have full, legal, redemptive, gospel, blood bought, promised and family right to use the name of Jesus Christ. Free, unlimited, and unqualified use of his name is the church’s deposit. Cheques will be honoured in the amount signed with a steady and unwavering hand (James 1:5-8).
This is one of the greatest privilege of the Christian faith, using the name of Jesus as a seal of authority that produces results. This is one of the major facts that differentiate Christianity from other religions. The name of Jesus Christ transcends all spheres of life. It carries authority across all boundaries, in heaven, on earth and under the earth. This is so because Jesus is the only one that can open the book in the right hand of him that sat on the throne and loose the seven seals thereof (Revelation 5:1-5).
Dear reader you can comfortably handover your life to Jesus Christ to give it a meaning.
Prayer: Father, thank you for giving me the name of Jesus as authority to live a victorious life of dominion.
