“Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day, we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober” – 1 Thess. 5:5-6(KJV).
Jesus is the Word, the Word is light. In the Word was life and the life is the light of men.”And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not” – John 1:5(KJV). We are of a truth the children of light because as many that received Him, He gave power to become the sons of God, even to those who believed on his name (John 1:12). We are the children of the day. Men see their way in the day unhindered by darkness. Clarity of unfolding prophecies of His second coming is revealed to us through the word which is light. This gives us the opportunity of always being prepared. The unbelievers do not have this privilege because they are in darkness (absence of the knowledge of the word of God) and are of the night. As Christians we have adequate information about the events that will precede the coming of Christ. This events are to keep us guided and prepared, waiting patiently for His soon appearance. We have no excuse if we miss it because we are adequately informed. The exact date of His appearance we may not know but the bible admonishes us in Matt. 24:44(KJV), “Therefore be ye also ready; for in such an hour as ye think not the son of man cometh”. We need to keep ourselves ready by exploring the channel of living a sanctified life, giving our total attention to the things of God and laying aside every weight, and the sin which does so easily confront us (Heb. 12:1). This is what it takes to watch and be sober. Not giving to drunkenness but filled with Spirit of God.
What a terrible experience if after all information and admonition made available to us, we miss being caught up to be with the Lord. It was based on this that Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 9:27(KJV) “But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway”. This is what it is to be watchful and be sober. It is my prayer that whosoever is reading this should take steps to put his life in right standing with God and patiently wait for the coming of the GREAT KING.
Prayer: My father and my God preserve me as I navigate through life and keep me from the ravaging storm of the wicked.
