“In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you” – Titus 2: 7-8(KJV).
The bible says in 2 Timothy 2:15(KJV) “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”. This scripture properly fit into what Paul the Apostle was intending to communicate in today’s quote from Titus 2:7. The scriptures are given to us by the inspiration of God and they are profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. It is the studying and meditation of the scriptures that produces sound doctrine which is uncorrupt. The scriptures is given for doctrine, for correction and instruction in righteousness. These are what transcends to gravity and sound speech that cannot be condemned. Our committed study and meditation of the word receives God’s approval to become sound and incontestable doctrine that needs not be ashamed of. This is what is meant by rightly dividing the word of truth. These are the teachings and words of Jesus Christ which the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, teaches us. It is profitable because it guides us in the path of life. God’s words are life unto those that find them, and health to their flesh (Proverbs 4:22). The bible says that “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” – Romans 10:10(KJV).
What you study and meditate upon takes root in you and begins to, by the Holy Spirit, transform your belief system from within, which consequently you vocalize it by the instrument of your mouth for your salvation and deliverance. Sound speech is a product of sound mind and a sanctified heart. It is what you know that you will speak on. Your mouth gives word to your thoughts. Your thought system is properly shaped by what you study and meditate upon. See the Psalmist experience in Psalm 119:99(NKJV): “I have more understanding than all my teachers, For your testimonies are my meditation.” Again the Psalmist says in Psalm 119:130(NKJV): “The entrance of your word gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.” A genuine thirst for God through His word produces sound speech, but meditation of the word releases depth of knowledge which is gravity. We must all times be prepared to contend for the most holy faith. When our speeches are guided by sound knowledge of the scriptures, they are not condemnable and it makes not for shame.
Prayer: O LORD grant me the help of the Holy Spirit for sound knowledge that will guide my speech.
