“For it became him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings” -Hebrews 2:10 (KJV)
God has a program and an agenda of bringing many sons to glory. This has been the eternal purpose of God to have many sons. Redemption was never an afterthought because the lamb is said to be slain from the foundation of the world. It was not an emergency arrangement; God had it in his plan of moving creatures to sonship status.
God had only one begotten son but he needed many sons so he converted his only son to a seed. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life” – John 3:16(KJV). After the resurrection from death, Jesus was no more referred to as the only begotten son but as the first begotten from the dead. The change of status was a result of many people who have become members of God’s family by new birth. “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” – John 1:12(KJV). By believing in the Lord Jesus, one becomes a partaker of God’s divine nature, a son of God, an heir and joint heir with Christ.
Man comes to the status of sonship with Jesus as the elder brother. Through the new birth made possible by the redemptive work of Christ, man becomes member of God’s family. God now has many sons and the glory God has given to Jesus, he shares with other sons. See the prayer lines of Jesus. “And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one even as we are one” – John 12:22(KJV). When he was addressing Mary after his resurrection, he referred to God as his father and our father and to us as his brethren (John 20:17). In the Lord’s Prayer, he taught the disciples to address God as father (Matthew 6:9).
Christ in us is our access to this glory (Colossians 1:27). As we preach the gospel which is the power of God unto salvation, people are given the opportunity to become sons of God and so many sons are brought into the glory of this sonship.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank you for raising me to sonship status to enable me partake of the glory.
