“But exhort one another daily, while it is called today; lest any of you be harder through this deceitfulness of sin” -Hebrew 3:13 (KJV)
There is an inherent deception in sin that gives the impression that sin is working for our good, that it will give us pleasure and comfort. This promise of comfort and pleasure is highly illusive and it hides the consequences of such action from its victim. Sin is a trap that has the inbuilt ability to lure its victim. The ultimate goal of sin is often hidden and so are the consequences. If there is any pleasure in sin, it is soon short-lived because the immediate games and pleasures are nothing compared to the far reaching consequences. The pleasure that sin fronts and its ability to conceal the consequences highlights the deceitfulness of sin. Where the consequences of sin are revealed, sin loses its power. People will understand that sin is not worth it. The lie and deception that one can disobey God and get away with it or that one is better off and happier outside God’s will spells the inherent power of sin.
Exposing the deceitfulness of sin weakens its power and brings to light the blessedness of righteousness. Sin is the seed of the devil to destroy our relationship with God. The mission of sin, like its master, is to steal, to kill, and to destroy (John 10:10).
Sin will cost you much more than you are willing to pay. It will cost you your reputation, your respect, your relationship, your fellowship with God, and your access to God. It will cost you your boldness and confidence. Sin will cost you your peace, joy and happiness. Sin may cost you your health and wealth.
Sin will keep you longer than you are prepared to stay. It is not a hit and run thing. You get entangled and cannot easily break off from its sway. Sin has an addictive power. It has a mission beyond the pleasure it presents. Sin is not a visitor, it is a landlord. Its mission is to control its victim and ultimately ruin his life. Sin will take you longer than you wanted to go. You become emotionally involved; it puts its stamp in the soul of the victim. It takes the time of its victims; it is a chain reaction, one step after the other. One lie leads to another and a first step will require a second to cover and perfect it and it continues unless the chain is broken by genuine repentance and deliverance.
Never fall victim to the deceitfulness of sin
