Week Nine – GUARD YOUR MIND (Contd)

Posted on

Main Scripture: Proverbs 4:23 ” Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life”

HOW CAN WE GUARD OUR MINDS

  1. RENEW YOUR MIND

You need to begin to build a mental picture of a glorious life that transcends the limits of your salary and family background. It is time to create a positive perception of your personality in line with the word of God. It is time to begin to reconstruct your mindset to agree with what the scripture says concerning you. And be renewed in the spirit of your mind – Eph. 4:23 Every evil work proceeds from your thought. The question then is what will I do to make my mind resist the enemy’s pollution. He took over the mind of Judas and he lost his sense of value and sold his master for 30 pieces of silver. Satan took over the mind of Eve and she shifted her mind from God’s commandment. According to Paul’s writing to the Corinthian church, Eve was deceived. – “But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ” – 2 Corinthians 11:13. The effect of these deceptions on humanity can be better imagine. When you have your mind filled with God and His word you are protected from the wicked wiles of the enemy. “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you”. – Isaiah 26:3. If you give over your mind to the devil, he will steal your destiny. You need to spiritualize your mind by effectively and continuously stuffing it with the word of God by so doing choking out the devil from your mind. Build up your thoughts and perceptions with the word of God. The Psalmist says in Psalm 119:133 – “Direct my steps by your word, and let no iniquity have dominion over me” When we are properly guarded by the word of God we can easily avoid the traps of sin by the devil. When the word of God is properly stored in our mind it keeps us prepared and alert against the fiery darts of the adversary.

The word of God is Jesus Christ in written form, and Jesus Christ is the light that shine among men, so the word of God is light(John 1:1-5). It is no wonder then that Psalm 119:130 says ” The entrance of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple” The quantum of the word you have stored in your mind determines the intensity of light you radiate in the spiritual realm. We can restate John 1:5 to read thus; “The light(word) shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it” Darkness can never rule over light because light has absolute dominion in the kingdom of darkness. Satan operates and dwells in darkness. He send the wiles and fiery darts in the form of thought into the mind of man to ensnare him. When these arrows from the kingdom of darkness come across a mind saturated with God’s word they are cheaply exposed. This is why you must constantly have a spiritual perspective to life by being spiritually minded. This guarantees life and peace. With your heart saturated with God’s word you become immune to the negative happenings around you. As you study the word you are building up yourself on your most holy faith and when the devil comes to clog your mind with wild imaginations and thoughts you ventilate your mind by praying in the Holy Ghost (Jude 20).

You must see things the way God sees them. You must not be overtaken by what is happening around you. You must possess the knowledge of what God is saying in every situation and work by it. You must have the prove of God’s will in every situation. The scriptures admonishes us in Romans 12:2 “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God” It is when your mind is properly renewed that you begin to understand what the will of God is in all circumstances and situations. Let your mind be constantly flushed with God’s word. Let God’s word give you a new thought pattern. Your mind belongs to God. Keep it pure as stated by Paul in Philippians 4:8. Think on good things only, seeing that your thoughts shape your life. For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” – Prov. 23 7a.
