“They meet with darkness in the day time, and grope in the noonday as in the night” – Job 5:14 (KJV).
It is understandable for one to grope in the night as in darkness. In the absence of bright light, one can grope and stumble. The night is associated with darkness and lack of clarity. There is poor visibility in the night due to the absence of light. The sun sets in the late evening making it very difficult and almost impossible for one to walk without stumbling in the night. The moon light can help to improve visibility at night during its season but even at that, one cannot compare that with the day. To grope in the noonday is absurd. It is very abnormal, very difficult to explain. The noon is the brightest moment of the day, and so to think of groping, not able to locate one’s way and not having clarity on one’s path, calls for concern. It should not be because the bright light provided by the sun solves darkness problem.
Unfortunately, this is the lot or funny experience of many. We are living at the brightest moment in human history. Darkness covered the earth before the advent of Christ Jesus. He came as the light of the gospel. But unfortunately, Satan, the god of this world, has blinded the minds of many, making it difficult for them to see the way. So many people today still grope even in the broad day light because they have rejected the light of the world, the sun of righteousness. (Malachi 4:2). They grope in the darkness of sin, fear, sickness, diseases, poverty, bondage and death because the light of life is not in them. They stumble in darkness not being able to navigate the path of life.
They cannot know the way or the truth because he is a person not a thing or an idea. “Jesus said unto him, I am the way, the truth and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” John 14:6 (KJV). When a person receives the gospel and accepts Jesus as Lord and saviour, he is translated from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light. He will no longer grope in darkness but will have the light of life.
Darkness here is not an electrical fault or power failure, neither is it natural sunset. It is spiritual sunset, total spiritual eclipse, ignorance and spiritual death resulting from the absence of God in one’s life. This spiritual darkness is the worst type of darkness resulting from the fall of man as a result of sin. Thank God, one can embrace Jesus and turn from darkness to light.
PRAYER: Oh God, let the scale fall off the eyes of my friends so they can see that true life is only in Christ.
