“Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draws back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him” – Hebrews 10:38 (KJV)
Those who are justified shall live by faith and not by sight. When people say they are living by faith, most time they simply mean that they have nothing, that they are only depending on God. The implication is that they live by faith only when there is nothing on ground or when the economy is bad or their account is dry; when there is no food in the house and probably live by sight when all is well. Living by faith is not limited or restricted to when the going is rough. The Christian is meant to live by faith always, in good times and in bad times. When we have financial and material breakthrough, we should live by faith because God is our source and sustenance. Living by faith is trusting and depending on God through thick and thin, in good times and bad times, in seasons of abundance and in seasons of lack.
To live by faith is to live by the word, to walk in obedience to the word. It is to base one’s life on the word and act on the word. It is to obey and trust the leading of the Holy Spirit. It is to refuse to walk by sight or sense evidence, but by the evidence of the word of God. To live by faith is to believe and obey God even when circumstances and situations seem to contradict God’s word or God’s ways.
Living by faith is not always easy but it is better and possible. It may look easier to walk by sight and it may sometimes appear unreasonable to obey God, but, ultimately, living by faith will always produce lasting peace and joy as well as enduring benefits.
Understanding the love of God and his plans for us will make it easier for us to walk by faith. Remember, sense evidence could be deceptive.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to live by faith and not by sight.
