“… Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us”. Heb 12:1
The world is full of trials and tribulations in all directions; be it at work, at home, even in the church. There are different challenges facing every one of us.
The Lord Jesus was faced with a grievous situation despite his sinless life. People lied against him, one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot betrayed him, Peter, his trusted disciple denied him and some of those that he came to die for crucified him.In all these, we could see that the Lord Jesus was focused on the goal, which is the redemption of humanity and that made him to go through the various pains that eventually caused him his life.
Any athlete that wants to win a race must deny himself a lot of pleasure by practicing continuously and focusing on the goal of winning the Prize that is set before him. The athlete will have to practice for several days and in the process may get injured, deny himself or herself some pleasure. However the joy of winning the race motivates the athlete to endure the hardship of training. This is why the bible says in Heb 12:1 … Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.
The sins, trials and temptations represent the rigors of the training which in itself represents the price or the cost that we need to pay as Christians to be able to win the final prize of making heaven.
Prayer: Father, give me the grace to focus on you in every area of my life and to end well in Jesus name.
