…Spreading the gospel of Christ

“But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.” James 3:8 KJV

A couple were concerned that they were always disagreeing and fighting over almost everything. They also observed that a neighbour couple of theirs are so loving and nobody hears of their disagreements. So they decided to study them to know the secret of their harmony.

One day they went to watch them and they saw the husband  mistakenly kick a flower pot that it fell and broke. Immediately, the man apologized that he wasn’t focused and he was sorry for breaking the pot. The wife responded almost immediately also apologizing that she must have placed the flower pot wrongly and that’s why the husband mistakenly hit it.

Furthermore, both the husband and wife bent down and began to pick the pieces of the pot that got broken.

The quarreling couple left their observation noting that they have learnt the secret. The way each of them spoke, using the tongue affected the way the other responded. Because the tongue of the quarreling couple were always speaking hate words and words of disagreement, they were unable to breed unity instead they bred disunity.

However it is worthy to note that the bible says in James 3:8 KJV: “But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.”  So how did the loving couple tame their tongue?

The answer is in Matthew 12:34 that out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. They have a loving heart. And we get a loving heart by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Love is the first part of the fruit of the Holy Spirit as stated in Gal 5:22. The heart must be loving for the mouth to speak loving words. So we need to fellowship with the Holy Spirit often so that we can bear his fruit.

Prayer: God the Holy Spirit, fill me afresh and tame my tongue in Jesus name.
