Bible Reading: Job 34; James 5:1-10
“Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.” – James 5:8 (KJV).
The bible is full of prophecies that indicate the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. In Matt 24: 6-12, the bible gives us a number of events that would happen to signify the second coming of Christ. Some of these include wars, nations rising against nations, famines, pestilences, earthquakes, persecution of Christians, betrayals, existence of false prophets, iniquity shall be all over and the gospel shall be preached all over the world. Almost all these events have happened and so the Lord Jesus can come any moment.
If Jesus comes today, what will be your fate? Will you be without spot, wrinkle or blemish as stated in Ephesians 5:27? This implies living a life of holiness, love to everyone, attending to the needs of the needy, praying regularly and winning souls into the kingdom of Christ.
When we do these things, then all around us can testify of our love. Just like the case of a Christian woman called Tabitha, meaning Dorcas, in Acts 9:36-39. When she died, the widows around her were weeping because of what she did for them while alive. She was so sorely missed that they called for Peter to pray for her to come back to life!
Compare that to a former president of Nigeria that died and most Nigerians were jubilating because of his reign of terror! What would people objectively say about you after you have died? That is an indication of your preparation for the second coming of Christ. The reality is that some of us would have died before the coming of Jesus Christ again to this earth. However, after death comes judgement, so we all should be prepared for death assuming it can come any moment.
That sort of preparation is what will establish our hearts and show that we are waiting his coming as stated in James 5:8 KJV: “Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.”
Prayer: Father, in the name of Jesus, help me to prepare every moment of my life for the second coming of Jesus Christ.
