Bible Reading: Job 36; 1 Pet.1:1-8
“To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you.” 1 Peter 1:4 (KJV)
One of the past military presidents of Nigeria died while he was still ruling and left a significant inheritance for his family. However, this inheritance was tainted with a lot of corruption and there has been several attempts by several subsequent regimes of the Nigerian government at recovering some of this wealth.
That is the worldly inheritance. It is completely different from heavenly inheritance which comes from God who makes rich without adding sorrow.
The position of God’s inheritance is well stated in 1 Peter 1:4 KJV: “To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you. This is confirmed by Jesus Christ in John 14:2 KJV: “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so , I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”
So the Lord Jesus has gone ahead to prepare a suitable place for us. However, we need to go through temptations. Everyone of us will be tried on our faith to know how committed we are to the Almighty God. The bible says in 1 Pet 1:6 that we will go through temptations and we should endure and rejoice that our faith is being tried. So anyone who wants to have an undefiled inheritance must be ready for temptations. It is not “if”, but “when”, because it will surely come!
Quite a lot of our Christian brethren, particularly those in North East Nigeria, have gone and are still going through serious persecutions. Imagine a woman killed recently in Abuja, Nigerian capital by some Muslim fundamentalists because she was evangelising early in the morning and some people felt she was disturbing their faith!
Prayer: Father, you are the one that makes rich without adding sorrow. Please help me never to taint my wealth with corruption.
