Bible Reading: Psa. 1; 1 Pet. 3:8-14
“For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.” – 1 Peter 3:12 KJV
Who is the righteous? From our memory verse, we can infer that he is one who does not do evil. Since evil is opposite of righteousness as inferred in 1 Pet 3:12.
This can further be examined in Psalm 1:1-2, part of our bible reading for the day.
It shows he is someone who:
- Does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly,
- Does not stand in the way of sinners.
- Does not sit in the seat of the scornful.
- Delights in the law of God.
- Meditates in the law of God day and night.
The bible further explains the detailed benefits of the righteous to us in Psalm 1:3:
- He would be like a tree planted by the rivers of water. This means, he will not lack anything as a tree by the river gets supplies of all needed nutrients everyday.
- He would bring forth his fruit in his season: There shall be no barrenness in his life. He would not be late in doing any good thing.
- His leaf shall not wither: So no premature death with such a person. No loss shall come near him.
- Whatsoever he does shall prosper.
Why would these benefits happen? The answer is in 1 Pet 3:12 that God hears their prayers!
These benefits of righteousness is the desire of so many but they are deluded. Why? Because most people are not ready to pay the price! Once you are ready , God does not owe any man.
Prayer: Father, give me the grace to live a life of righteousness in Jesus name.
