Bible Reading: Psalm 14, 2 Peter 3: 1-9
“The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good” -Psalm 14:1(KJV)
The three Hebrew word translated for “fool” are as follows:-
1. Evil: lax or careless habit of mind and body; to be perverse, silly and a fool.
2. Kesil: fat, and then dense or stupid, manifesting itself in impiety.
3. Nabal: A vulgar and low-breed surly fellow. The Hebrew word nabal is used in translation for the fool in reference to the above scriptures. A vulgar, low-breed, a bad tempered and rude fellow will say in his heart, there is no God.
I tried to reason what on earth can make someone to say there is no God. I came to the conclusion that irrespective of your education and qualification, when you reject the existence of the Almighty, you are a fool. It is an act of high level irresponsibility for anyone to say there is no God. Such an impious attitude can only be said to be nothing but foolish. The whole of creation; the serenity, the systematic placement of all things, the orderly state of nature all attest to the existence of God. All invisible things, even the eternal power and Godhead are clearly seen by the visible things of creation. Romans 1:20(KJV) says: “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.” It is therefore foolishness for any reasonable person to say there is no God.
Most time the thought that there is no God is borne out of the desire for people to live careless and uncontrolled life. It is a product of a reckless living or borne out of a disappointed trust in God. In any case it is nothing but foolishness considering that the hand of an unseen power can be seen in the orderliness of creation. Truly, foolishness, as referred to in this scripture, is a product of a polluted, stupid, wicked, impious and vile heart.
It is wisdom to see the hand of God in His creation. It is even a higher wisdom to accept Him into your life through genuine repentance from sin. Wisdom requires that we get reconciled to God to avoid the rebellion of a non-believe in God. Finally take counsel from this scriptures: “Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge; their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst. Therefore hell hath enlarge herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it. And the mean man shall be brought down, and the mighty man shall be humbled, the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled; But the LORD of hosts shall be exalted in judgement, and God that is holy shall be sanctified in righteousness” – Isaiah 5:13-16.
Let the wise in heart know that whatever you think or believe does not obviate the fact of the existence of the Almighty God. Let me also warn that the coming of the Lord Jesus is very near, hence wisdom demands that we embrace the Almighty God through His Son Jesus Christ.
Prayer: Father, please help me to erase any foolish thought from my mind. Give me the heart that crave after you Oh’ Lord.
