Bible Reading: Psalm 19, 1 John 2: 17-21
“Moreover by them is thy servant warned, and in keeping of them there is great reward. Who can understand his errors, cleanse me from secret faults” – Psalm 19:11-12(KJV).
It is the law, testimony, statutes, ordinances, and commandments of God that constitute the Word of God. In the above verses of scriptures the bible says it is by them God’s servants are warned and that keeping them has great reward. It is the word of God that points out our errors and exposes our secret faults. The Psalmist in another place speaking concerning the word of God said: “Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.” Psalm119:133(KJV). In the same vein the scriptures says in Psalm 119:130(KJV): “The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.” A combination of these two scriptures reveal the power of deliverance in the word of God. It also shows the power of enlightenment in the word.
The word of God also give direction, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a lamp unto my path” – Psalm 119:105(KJV). The word of God is a channel through which God leads His children. The word of God also carry the power of transformation and change. “And be ye not conformed to this: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” – Romans 12:2(KJV). You renew your mind through the study of and meditation on the word of God. “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord” – 2 Cor. 3:18(KJV).
The word of God has the power of sanctification and cleansing. “Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.” – John 15:3. The Psalmist recognizes the cleansing power of the word when he said in Psalm 119:9(KJV): “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to thy word.” This is further stated in Ephesians 5: 26-27, “That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.” God’s word is truth that sanctifies (John 17;17).
It is the knowledge of this tremendous benefits that moved the Psalmist who has experienced the wonder working power of God’s word to say: “Moreover by them is thy servant warned, and in keeping of them there is great reward.” – Psalm 19:11 (KJV).
Testifying of the potency in God’s word, Apostle Paul writes in Hebrew 4:12: “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intent of the heart.” He further enumerated the purpose and benefits of the word in 2 Timothy 3:16-17(KJV): “All scripture is given by the inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”
My dear reader you will agree with me that for a man to keep his way pure he will require a daily dose of the word and constant showering by the word of God. The word of God is rewarding, transformative, creative and refreshening.
Prayer: Father I plead for you to help me store your word in my heart that I may not sin against you.
