Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what accord has Christ with Belial? What part has a believer with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols- 2 Cor. 6: 14-16a
This scriptures aptly describe how we as Christians should associate and relate with the people of the world. As Christians the scriptures requires us to be mindful of our association, for as they say “evil communication corrupts good manner”. Just imagine light and darkness sharing the same room or Jesus Christ and Satan shaking hands and sharing jokes. These is unimaginable, therefore in the same vain we must try to avoid very deep relationship with people of unscrupulous and shady character. We must give distance to men of vile disposition in our dealings. “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful” – Psalm 1: 1.
We must not be part of dealings that will bring aspersion upon the name of God. We must distance ourselves from activities that represent darkness. We must avoid making money by all means.
Abraham in today’s daily reading was determined to ensure that his son Isaac does not go into a deep relationship as marriage with the pagan nations around him. In his determination he placed his servant under an oath to go to his kindred and get a wife for Isaac. He was conscious of the level of ungodliness around him, hence his commitment to his son’s spiritual wellbeing compelled him to seek a wife for him from his Kindred.
It is imperative as Christian that we guide our association with all diligence. Association can make or mar us. Association is by choice, so we must not choose what will destroy us.
Prayer: Father remove me far from men of unscrupulous and shady character. Let me never be found in the home of evil activities, Psalm 1:1. In Jesus Name. Amen
