Bible Reading: Psalm 58, Revelation: 14
“Do ye indeed speak righteousness, O congregation? Do ye judge uprightly, O ye sons of men?” – Psalm 58:1(KJV)
These are pertinent questions that requires an answer from every one that exist on earth as a son of man. How many among men speak righteousness indeed? Speaking righteousness also entail living in righteousness for out of the abundant of the heart the mouth speaks. “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” – Romans 10:10(KJV). Who is he that speaks righteousness? He is that man who stands by the truth even at his own peril. He is that person that his word is his bond. He is that man whom men despises because he will not bend the rule for anyone. He is that one that no guile is found in him. He is that man you can trust with your wealth and substance and you are at ease having confidence on his integrity. He is that man who will prefer his fellow man to himself for honour. Can we actually find from the above stated qualities a man who indeed speaks righteously? We mean that man whose deeds speaks of righteousness. Is there any among men. Peradventure there are but it is very certain that they are very few whose righteous stand has been overwhelmingly suppressed by the massive majority of unrighteous living. Actually this is a phenomenon of the last day (2 Timothy 3:1-5).
Judging uprightly is another step higher. For a man to render upright judgement he must be upright in living. In this generation when the teaming majority live in unrighteousness, one wonders how there can be upright judgement. How many are ready to render judgement uprightly irrespective of their position on an issue? We have witnessed a lot of miscarried judgements. We have witnessed the effect of corruption on the outcome of judgement in our land. Across the globe, injustice and miscarriage of justice is prevalent. Hear what the bible says, “Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth” Habakkuk 1:4(KJV).
In conclusion we shall hearken to the words of Amos the prophet: “Seek the LORD and ye shall live…. Ye who turn judgment to wormwood, and leave off righteousness in the earth” – Amos 5:6a, 7(KJV). God loves right judgment and He desires that we judge uprightly, hence he requested through Amos the prophet “But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream” – Amos 5:24(KJV). Righteousness and upright judgment are aligned together. One is a product of the other. When we receive Jesus into our life we are endowed with his righteousness. It is this new birth that singles us out of the vast majority of ungodly living to be called the Trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD (Isaiah 61:3). YOU NEED JESUS CHRIST NOW MORE THAN EVER TO COME INTO YOUR HEART AND DWELL.
Prayer: Father uphold me by your grace in this wicked and perverse world of sin and wickedness.
