Bible Reading: Psalm 63, Revelation: 19
“Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee” – Psalm 63:3(KJV)
Really, God’s loving kindness is better than life. What is in this life without the expression of God’s love towards man? Life is empty and vain without the love of God flowing to us and through us. God’s loving kindness is what has given meaning to living. Other than His divine love shown me what would I have become? The drunkard who drinks to forget his sorrow and sleeps most times in the gutter, what kind of life is that? The prostitute that has to sell her body for money what kind of life is that? The kidnapper who kidnaps and is always at edge of being caught, what kind of life is that? The corrupt government official that stole from the national treasury and is languishing in detention, what kind of life is that? I can go on and on presenting examples of vain life. Many people had gotten tired of life and committed suicide, can that be said to be life. Voltaire the great atheist had his mouth twisted and was calling for a pastor to pray for him on his death bed but it was too late to know God. His was a wasted life. What is life without God? It is vain and has no substance.
No matter the knowledge acquired without Christ it is a wasteful exercise. The conclusion of the matter was given by Jesus in John 10:10(KJV): “The thief (devil) cometh to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” Jesus has come to take us beyond just having life to a higher realm of abundant life. Through his death he has brought to us eternal life. Jesus has brought immortality to light. “But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.” Before Christ came we had life that is subject to death because the devil had the key of death and hell. Christ came to reverse all that to give us life, that is eternal, having spoilt the devil and his cohorts and taken from him the key of death and hell. He rose from the dead fulfilling Hosea 13:14(KJV) “I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death I will be thy plagues; O grave I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from my eyes.” Jesus our Lord and Saviour is the plagues of death and the destruction of the grave.
By redemption we have been delivered from the power of death. As death has no power over Christ it does not also have power over us. When Christ died and went to hell to complete our redemption, we were there with him in all his accomplishments. This is the reason why the Psalmist who has one of the most outstanding prophetic ministry can say he longs and thirst for God to see His power and his glory as it was manifested in His sanctuary, because God’s lovingkindness is better than life. It is the love of God that brought Christ to us who came to take us to a higher realm of life as espoused in 2 Peter 1:4(KJV): “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” REALLY GOD’S LOVE IS BETTER THAN LIFE. Go for it now.
Prayer: Father, words are not enough to thank you for counting me worthy to be a partaker of your divine nature.
