…Spreading the gospel of Christ

Bible Reading: Psalm 69: 1-36

“But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O God, in acceptable time: O God, in the multitude of thy mercy hear me, in the truth of thy salvation. Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters. Let not the waterflood overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me” – Psalm 69:13-15(KJV).

A popular adage says “when people cry they see clearly.” So it was for the Psalmist. This is one among the many Psalms of David written in times of trouble. David experienced different predicaments such as being pursued by a jealous and envy-driven king, betrayal of very close associates who joined forces with his enemies to plot his downfall, an in-house coup de ’tat by his own son and diverse other life challenges that confronted him. Most of this life challenges would have, if not for divine help, resulted into shame, ridicule and irredeemable damage to his reputation and person.

What do you do when you are being swallowed by the deep waters of life’s problems? What do you do when you are sinking in the deep mud of shame, failure, rejection, debt, sickness etc.? What do you do when people you expected to show you love turned out to be your haters and enemies? Worst still, when such persons use their power and influence to oppress you. Like David, develop the attitude of a helpless man seeking for help from the Almighty God. David’s ceaseless heart cry in prayers unto the Almighty God for help and God’s consequent answers over the years has resulted in his mastery of the attitude to present before God in such times. When we cry unto God for help in the face of life’s challenges, we should possess the following attitudes:

(1). The Attitude that patiently wait until the time of the LORD comes.
(2). The Attitude of panting after God and His great love.
(3). The Attitude of praising the LORD, who keeps all His promises.

Prayer: Father, give me the right attitude when I come before you in prayer.
