Bible Reading: Psalm 72: 1-20
“He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth. They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him; and his enemies shall lick the dust. The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents: and the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts. Yea, all kings shall fall down before him: all nations shall serve him” Psalm 72: 8-11(KJV)
King David was a man of unusual insight who saw far beyond his time on earth. In our study of today we see the Psalmist speaking about the reign and dominion of Christ when he shall come to reign. This is the second coming of Christ. We will look at this awesome prophecy of David to be able to see the magnitude of the reign of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
“He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth” (v 8). This connotes all lands between all seas not limited to the Mediterranean and the Persian gulf. This prophecy was confirmed in Daniel 7: 14(KJV), “And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.” The river in question is referring to the river that will be made to flow out of the capital building – the Millennial Temple. (See Ezekiel 47 and Zechariah 14: 8) “And his enemies shall lick the dust.” this signifies a total submission of the enemies to him.
In Zechariah 14:9(KJV) the extent of Christ kingdom is set out vividly “And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD and his name one.” The extent of His dominion as stated in verse 11: “Yea, all kings shall fall down before him: all nations shall serve him” is collaborated in Daniel 7:27(KJV) “and the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him”. All kings and all nations will be under Jesus Christ, the Messiah, and become the natural earthly generations in all eternity to carry on God’s earthly program of replenishing the earth, as Adam and his children would have done if man has not fallen.(See Verse 17).
The whole plan and purpose of salvation is for man to take back what Adam legally handed over to Satan through sin. It was for this reason the Son of God came in human form to wrestle out authority from the hand of Satan. “Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of same ; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil” –Hebrew 2:14(KJV). Seeing that those whom he represents are flesh and blood, it became imperative for him to become flesh and blood that he might be capable of dying in our place. By this act, He destroyed Satan and annulled his power of death over mankind. My dear reader this is what Christ did for us, the reason why many are blind to this is because Satan has blinded them from seeing the light of the glorious gospel of Christ. (2 Corinthians 4:4). My prayer for the reader of this piece is that God will open your eyes of understanding to fully conceptualize what Jesus did for you at Calvary.
Prayer: Father open my eyes to the whole truth of Calvary.
