Bible Reading: Psalm 79:1-13
“Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name’s sake. Wherefore should the heathen say, where is their God? Let him be known among the heathen in our sight by the revenging of the blood of thy servants which is shed” – Psalm 79:9-10 (KJV)
The church has been vulnerable to attacks since inception. She is constantly a victim of abuse by those who are bent to eliminate her at all cost. This frequent humiliation which was prevalent in the days of old is repeating itself in our day. Terrorism in several parts of the world is clearly pointing attention to this reality of invasion into God’s inheritance. This was what the Psalmist saw that made him cry out in his days to the One who has the ability to deliver his own inheritance. The vivid description contained in verses 1-4 of Psalms 79, explains the gravity of the evil that pervaded the camp of God’s people, and the complaint in verse 5 opens our eyes to the perceived delay of the intervention of God.
In his lamentation, the Psalmist alluded to sin as the cause of the predicament that is plaguing them. He equally knows that the mercies of God is always available to take care of their sin. “For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more” – Hebrews 8:12(KJV).
Folks, have your life, business, family and all been invaded? There is hope, for you can have help in the Lord by calling on Him just as the Psalmist cried out: “Help us, O God of our salvation, and for the glory of thy name: and deliver us…” He indeed wants to listen to your sighing as a prisoner. He can and will preserve your life from dying according to His divine power. He shall also give to your neighbour who have reproached you sevenfold punishment as He promised in His word: “Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you:” – 2 Thes 1:6(KJV). You are precious in the hand of your Creator simply because you are the sheep of His pasture.
Prayer: Father, deliver your inheritance (The Church) from invasion of the heathen in Jesus name.
