Bible Reading: Psalm 84:1-12
“For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness” Psalm 84:10 (KJV).
Just as God has courts, the wicked also has tents. It is interesting to know that both are meant to be inhabited by humans. The writer of this psalm shows his unwavering interest in the house of God. Thus he declares in verses 1-2: “How amiable are thy tabernacles, O LORD of hosts! My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.”
What does tabernacle mean to Israel? It was a ‘portable earthly place where the children of Israel meet with God from the time of their Exodus from Egypt through the conquering of the land of Canaan. It is a dwelling place or sanctuary.
The descendants of Korah saw the importance of always being in the house of the LORD. They knew that they derive the strength for all activities from there and to face powers and the rigours of life comes from seeking Him earnestly in His sanctuary. See what the Psalmist said “what joy for those whose strength comes from the Lord, who have set their minds on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. When they walk through the Valley of weeping, it will become a place of refreshing springs. The autumn rains will clothe it with blessings” – Psalm 84:5-6(NLT).
What is your attitude towards fellowshipping with God and others in a designated place? Remember, that we are encouraged not to give up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another, so much the more as you see the day approaching. (Hebrews 10:25.).
Have you made staying away from fellowship a habit? You are doing damage to yourself and others who are supposed to gain from your presence. Also, you will be unable to access your benefit of fellowshipping with one another.
Get out of the antics of the devil and wake up to this eternally rewarding venture. Get out of the tents of the wicked if you are currently residing there.
Prayer: Create the craving of being in your presence in my heart, O’ Lord. Let not the tents of the wicked drive my life in Jesus name.
