Bible Reading: Psalm 85:1-13
“Shew us thy mercy, O LORD, and grant us thy salvation” – Psalm 85:7(KJV).
God’s mercy is so deep that there is nothing it cannot do for us. The mercy of God has the capacity to bury all the weight of sin in the life of anyone regardless of how far deep he has gone into it. The Psalmist in the above passage rejoiced in the fact that God has brought back the captivity of Jacob, and have forgiven their iniquity and covered all their sins. He took away His wrath and turned away the fierceness of His anger (verses 1-3).
What made Him do that? Only His mercy can do that: “For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us” -.Psalm 103:11-12(KJV).
Having seen the way and manner with which God handled them, he now decides to ask Him for something that is more enduring- restoration. Until a man sees where he has fallen and positions himself for restoration, God cannot move in to restore. Your rejoicing should be predicated upon the restoration God has given you. Man surely has difficulty in hearing God until he gains the benefit of restoration from God. This understanding made the Psalmist to declare: “I will hear what God the LORD will speak, for He will speak peace to His people and to His saints; but let them not turn back to folly” – Psalm 85:8(KJV). Have you also been restored into walking relationship with God? Do not go back into folly. It is dangerous as God can still be forced to withdraw His peace. Do you want His perpetual peace? Then turn to Jesus. “Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” – Rom 5:1(KJV). When this is maintained and sustained you can be rest assure that your land shall yield her increase.
Prayer: Oh Lord, let your righteousness go before me and set me always in the way to follow your steps in Jesus name.
