Bible Reading: Psalm 88:1 – 18
“I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength: free among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom thou rememberest no more: and they are cut off from thy hand” – Psalm 88: 4-5(KJV).
There are many reasons for the lamentation we face on this side of eternity. There are situations that specialize in getting morning, afternoon and night tears from our eyes. The supplicant in this Psalm suffered terribly in the situation that befell him which we cannot possibly figure out clearly. We however know that the predicament ostracized him from his people. Meanwhile we know clearly that, it is the lepers that are meant to stay outside the camp, but the troubles in the life of this man were enormous to the extent that he confessed it with his mouth.. “You have put away my acquaintances far from me; you have made me an abomination to them: I am shut up, and I cannot get out” (verse 8). The hope of this man has been completely dashed and he thought that God has forgotten him in his situation. However, it is interesting to know that before he started his lamentations, he acknowledged God as the one who saves in verse 1.
The situation of this writer pictures what many people in our world are currently going through, which has led a good number of people to commit suicide. However as children of God we should know that in our journey in life, moment of hardship always come and allowed by God in order for Him to see what our disposition would be in the midst of it all. Like Job, we should be able to say: “though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him” – Job 13:15(KJV). Life though not always on the straight course, however, we are expected to maintain our relationship because all that comes our way are designed to bring out the glory of God in our lives in the long run.
Prayer: Everlasting Father, give me grace to know that you are with me in any situation that comes my way in Jesus name.
