…Spreading the gospel of Christ

Bible Reading: Psalm 100:1-5

“For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations” – Psalm 100:5(KJV).

Our God is the God of Mercy and Truth. Jesus said in John 14:6(KJV): “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Mercy and truth are eterna,l… “his mercy is everlasting and his truth endureth to all generations.” These are the attributes of God that procured salvation for man. Divine mercy is embedded in grace. Grace is God’s immense and unconditional love extended to us. Truth is the foundation upon which the redemption of man is established. These two attributes of God when merged with righteousness and peace bring salvation to men who fear God. All four attributes of God work in harmony to bring salvation to men that fear God.

By mercy and truth life is preserved and they are the path of the LORD unto them that keep his covenant and his testimonies (Psalm 61:7). By mercy and truth we obtain favour and understanding in the sight of God and man. “Let not mercy and truth forsake thee; bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shall thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man” – Proverbs 3:3-4(KJV). The writer of Proverbs admonishes us to hold on intimately to this godly attributes because they have the potential to pave the way for us in life. We are to make mercy and truth our lifestyle so as to live in righteousness and in peace. Like begat like, so if the attributes of our Father includes mercy and truth, it therefore means that we have them also deposited in us as children of the most High God. When we operate in mercy and in truth, we can hardly sin or go against God’s instructions. This is so because by mercy and truth iniquity is purged. (Proverbs 16:6).

Holding on to a lifestyle of mercy and truth will attract men of goodwill and it will endear you to people because integrity is seen in you. You cannot be truthful and lack integrity. It is wisdom to resolve to live a life embedded in mercy and truth. Men and women of substance will like to associate with you because they can trust you and whatever you say is accepted as your bond. Integrity is built on truth and truth can never diminish. Truth is truth and remain so forever. Truth is constant and can never change. Mercy is gracious. It is the attribute of love which cannot fail. When you show mercy, mercy will always be extended to you. Through mercy and truth you dwell in a peaceable habitation because your integrity will speak for you.

It is mercy and truth that brought us salvation, and righteousness preserves it, while peace is its product. May the God of peace grant you the grace to live righteously in mercy and truth.

Prayer: Father, give me the grace to live with mercy and truth as a lifestyle.

Bro. Joel Ezeugo.
