Bible Reading: Psalm 108:1-13
“O GOD, my heart is fixed; I will sing and give praise, even with my glory” – Psalm 108:1(KJV).
This is a statement of a man who has made up his mind and determined to please God all the days of his life. The Psalmist is saying that he has made up his mind to praise God with all his being. He meant that he has dedicated all he has to praise and serve the Almighty God. His trust in God is unshakeable because he has witnessed the mercy of God. “For thy mercy is great above the heavens: and thy truth reacheth unto the clouds – Psalm 108:4(KJV). The psalmist had no wavering heart concerning his confidence, trust and belief in the Almighty. He was not ready to entertain any doubt about the authenticity of God’s promises and what God stands for. He took a firm position about his knowledge of God and what he will do to honour God “..my heart is fixed”.. that is decisional statement and following is what he had determined to do …“I will sing and give praise.” To what extent was the psalmist ready to go to sing and give praise, he declares “….even with my glory.” He was ready to push aside whatever exalted position he may be when it comes to rendering praises to God. Recall King David dancing among the people when the Ark of God was brought back to the City of David. He danced in such a way that his wife despised him and she suffered for it with barrenness.
Most often we forget the goodness of the Lord. We allow our humanly exalted position to determine the extent of our praise to God. Most times some persons are ashamed to be associated with dancing and singing to God. They sing with so much gentility and style depicting a gentleman and a highly respected person in the society. Our knowledge of God affects how we praise him. How much we know of God’s ability or our perception of God contribute to a large extent to our commitment to praising, worshipping and dancing before him. How much do you know about God to warrant commiting your entire being to a lifestyle of praise and worship?
Our God deserves to be praised. Praising God attracts his presence. When we dedicate our entire life to his praise, his mighty hand upon our life will turn us to a wonder on earth. He will fight our battles and grant us victory to life issues cheaply. A commitment to praising God is a decision to remain victorious in all areas of life. Isaac blessed Jacob because he prepared him the venison, the meal he loves to eat. So also a man that has a lifestyle of praise will perpetually be enjoying divine blessing because praise is God’s habitation.
Dear friend, like the Psalmist, determine from today to live in praise of the Almighty God and see what He will make of you.
Prayer: Oh LORD release upon me the spirit of praise, so that your praise will be in my mouth all the days of my life.
