Bible Reading: Psalm 115:1- 18
“Ye that fear the LORD, trust in the LORD: He is their help and their shield. The LORD shall increase you more and more, you and your children” – Psalm 115:11,14(KJV)
To fear and trust is a sign of complete loyalty. To hold someone with so much reverence and trust him gives an assurance of total loyalty. Thus, having a godly fear and trust in God attracts divine help and protection. The core place of serving God and doing His will is in godly fear that breeds righteousness and total trust that consolidates our faith in God and in His word. Fear of and trust in God are the panacea for ungodliness and decadence in our society.
God is very favourably disposed to helping and protecting them that fear and trust Him. References abound in the scriptures of God’s unfailing promises in this regard. Psalm 112 enumerates the bountiful blessings that accompanies a man who fears the LORD. In Psalm 112:1-3(KJV) the bible says: “Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments. His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed. Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth forever.” The scriptures describes him that fears and trust in the LORD as an upright and righteous man. This is because the fear of the LORD breeds holiness.
The fear of the LORD is the foundation of wisdom. The wisdom from above when it comes upon a man releases him to prosperity. Hear what the bible says about wisdom: “Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. Length of days is in her(wisdom) right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour. She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is everyone that retaineth her” Proverbs 3:13,16,&18(KJV). The fear and trust in God and his word creates in us a strong desire for God’s word which is the gateway to God’s wisdom. This is so because Jesus Christ is the Word, the Light, the Wisdom and the Power of God. When we accept Jesus into our life, it means we have the entrance of God’s word and the entrance of the Word gives light and gives understanding to the simple(Psalm 119:130). The scriptures says “But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God – 1 Corinthians 1: 24(KJV). It therefore means that entrance of Christ into our life is the entrance of wisdom and the power of God. It is no wonder then that the bible said “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. John 1:12(KJV).
Again, the scriptures talks about the magnitude of the benefit of our belief in Christ in confirmation to this scripture in 2 Peter 1:3-4(KJV): “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness through the knowledge him that hath called us to glory and virtue; whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises; that by these ye might be partakers of his divine nature, having escape the corruption that is in the world through lust”.
Dear friend the bible says that “The LORD shall increase you more and more, you and your children” – Psalm 115:14(KJV). This is God’s promise if you can come out of your self-imposed captivity under the oppression of Satan to accept Christ into your life.
Prayer: Father, endue me with the Spirit of the fear of the LORD so that I can serve you acceptably all the days of my life.
