Bible Reading: Psalm 121:1 –8
“The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul” – Psalm 121:7(KJV).
Our God is a God of preservation. It is God’s obligation to keep His own from evil and He has never disappointed in doing that. No father will watch his child being pulled into the river to drown. The fatherly instinct and love will rise when a father sees his child in danger, he will do anything possible to retrieve his child from danger. A father’s love for his child is strong and will come to full glare at the threat of any danger to his child. God is our father. Jesus in teaching us how to pray refered to God in Matthew 6:9 as “our Father which at in heaven.” He requested we pray addressing God as our father because by redemption we have been adopted by God as sons and daughters. “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” – John 1:12(KJV). As it is the responsibility of a father to protect his children, so also protecting and preserving our life is God’s responsibility and it tops His priority.
God is aware of the prevalent evil on earth. He knows the danger we face daily and how perilous the earth has become. Through His all-knowing nature and infinite power God has made provision for our preservation from evil every second, minute, hour and daily. He will not only preserve us from danger he will preserve our soul from the ravaging moral decadence in our society. God’s capability to preserve us from evil is not in doubt. No man goes to the market to buy a very costly dress and watch it being used as rag by his house help. When you consider what it cost God to redeem us, you will understand why your preservation is uppermost in His heart. To preserve one redeemed soul God can do away with multitude of reprobates. It cost God his only begotten Son to save you, so He will not allow the evil power to harm you.
Through the death of Christ, man entered into an everlasting covenant with God sealed with the blood of Jesus Christ. One of the covenant terms is your protection. You are a covenant Child with covenant privileges among which is sustenance and preservation of your life, so move around with this confidence and be free from the harassment of the evil forces. As a covenant child you carry the mark of exemption. The blood of Jesus Christ declares passover to every evil that comes your direction. As you begin to attain the knowledge of your placement in Christ evil begins to give way to you.
Evil is the handiwork of the devil and the bible says in 1 John 3:8b(KJV): “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” Jesus came for this purpose and accomplished it without fail, and through an open show exposed Satan and the kingdom of darkness and triumph over them. With him being our Lord and Saviour, we are guaranteed preservation and keeping of our soul from evil. He has promised that he will preserve your going out and your coming in. We must study to know what the divine promises that guarantee our preservation are and appropriate them in our lives.
Prayer: Father keep me from all evil.
