Bible Reading: Psalm 130:1-8
6thMay 2017
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” – 1 John 1:9 (KJV)
We have all sinned and need the grace of God to be cleansed. Romans 3:23 (KJV) says: “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” The interesting thing though is that no matter how far we have gone from God, no matter how grievous the sins we committed had been, God is gracious to forgive us and give us a new beginning. 1 John 1:9 KJV –
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” God knows that if he is to judge all of us based on our flesh and sins, hardly will any be able to meet the standard. That’s why the bible says in Psalm 130:3 (KJV), “If thou, Lord , shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?”
However when he cleans us, he expects us to forsake our old ways and follow him till the end. Ecclesiastes 12:13 (KJV) says: “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man”.
To keep his commandments, our Lord Jesus Christ has simplified it for us by breaking the laws basically into two. Mark 12:29-31 (KJV) – “And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.”
So as a born again child of God, one is expected to be filled with love within and without and living with people in love. When we have love, we would not like to hurt others, we will be far from backbiting, gossiping, stealing, fornicating, cheating, murder, slander, forgery, lying and similar vices. Since all these things will hurt someone else and we will not like to hurt whoever we love, we will run away from such. Any wonder then why God is love!
If we want to be like God, we must be filled within and without with love!
Prayer: Father, wash me clean with your blood and fill me with your love in Jesus name.
